How it Works

 

Welcome to the Spring 2026 RI Econ Challenge ONLINE!

 

The 2026 RI Econ Challenge testing period is January 5th-March 27th.

 

  • January 5th-March 27th, 2026 
    • The Rhode Island Economics Challenge is Online. The student competition is taken online at your school, and supervised by a teacher or approved proctor. See Rules
    • State Champions will be announced for both high school and middle school divisions and advancing teams will be notified after testing ends.
  • National Economics Challenge
    • State Semi-finals  - The RI State Champions for the Adam Smith and David Ricardo divisions will compete online with other state's Semi-winners for the opportunity to advance to the National Finals.  
    • National Economics Challenge Finals in Atlanta, GA  https://www.councilforeconed.org/national-economics-challenge/ RI Teams will compete for cash prizes in the following amounts for each team member, plus one teacher-coach: 1st place: $1,000 | 2nd place: $500 | 3rd place: $250 | 4th place: $200

Rhode Island high school and middle school teachers may log in now and register their students and teams. Registration will remain open through through March 27th.

The online competition 2025 RI EconChallenge will be open on testing dates January 5th-March 27th 2026.

This competition is online and free. Any Rhode Island teacher can sign up and register his/her high school or middle school students. Once you have registered as a teacher, you can begin to register your students and create student teams of three to four students in the appropriate divisions. Teachers or an approved proctor will supervise students taking the Challenge during the testing period. 

Important Dates for the Spring 2026 Rhode Island Economics Challenge

  • January 5th-March 27th 2026 - Registration is open for the Rhode Island Economics Challenge. New teachers can register by going to econchallenge (https://econchallenge.unl.edu/ and then choose Rhode Island and then Teacher Registration. Teachers may review rules and once their registration is in the system, they can register teams of 3-4 high school or middle school students. There are no limits on the number of teams a teacher can register. 
  • January 5th-March 27th 2026  - The Rhode Island Economics Challenge is available online. The 35-minute student competition is taken online by individual students at their schools under the supervision of their teacher or a designated proctor. 
  • After the competition: The RI state winners in all divisions are announced!
