Welcome to The Ohio Economics Challenge
The National Economics Challenge is a fun and free way for students to flex their intellectual muscles and test their knowledge of economics.
Competitions are held at the State, National Semi-Final, and National Final levels for high school students in two divisions: the Adam Smith Division, for advanced placement, international baccalaureate and honors students; and the David Ricardo Division for semester general economics students.
IMPORTANT DATES:
REGISTRATION OPENS ON JANUARY 23, 2023:
Teachers may view the rules and register teams of four high school students. There are no team limits so this makes a great class activity. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
- February 20 - April 7, 2023 - Online Competition - Students can enter the Ohio Economics Challenge website and complete the exam.
The State Winners of the Ohio Economics Challenge will receive a notification once the competition has ended. In the event of a tie, the team with the lowest total time used to complete the exams will be declared the winner. Only team scores are available for distribution.
The 2023 National Economics Challenge:

Semi-Finals will be held online during the window of April 24-28, 2023. The top teams in each division will be invited to the National Economics Challenge Finals.
Finals will be held in person May 20 – 23, 2023, and will consist of a Critical Thinking Round and quiz bowl for the top teams.
Divisions:
The "Adam Smith" Division is restricted to students enrolled in AP, IB, honors, differentiated, or college-level courses. Any economics course as a two-semester course also falls in this division.
The "David Ricardo" Division is restricted to students enrolled in one-semester or less high school courses not labeled as AP, IB, honors, differentiated, or college level.
