The Rules: How It Works

It's quite simple, really!   Teachers, follow the steps below to register and test your studetns. 

The Mississippi National Economics Challenge is on an only competition with this opportunites (rounds) to test.  Once the competition begins, students can enter the Challenge website and complete a 40 question rapid fire exam consisting of macro, micro, and international questions. Each student will be given 45 minutes.

Test Dates: September 22-October 10, 2025; December 1-12, 2025, and March 2-20, 2026.

Scoring: the sum of the top three individual scores on each team make up the team score. Scoring on individual tests are as follows:

  • +10 points for each correct answer
  • 0 points for each unanswered question

REGISTRATION: 

  • New Teachers:  You will need to complete the Teacher Registration and be approved by your local administrator before you can begin creating teams.   See this video to learn how to register. 
  • Returning Teachers:  No need to register again.  Simply login into to the challenge website to create your teams

 

CREATING TEAMS: 

  • Once you have registered as a teacher, you can begin to create student teams of 3-4 students in one of two divisions provided below.  
  • Create teams by selecting the "Team Management Tab by selecting "Create New Teams

OR

  • New for 2026!   You can use a CSV file to batch import teams!  Check out this video to learn how to import teams via CSV. View instructional video by clicking here CSV Import .

  • Adam Smith: High School students enrolled in any two semester econ macro and micro course sequence or any course labeled as dual enrollment, AP, IB, honors, or differentiated. If you previously participated in the David Ricardo Division, you must register for Adam Smith in this year's competition.
  • David Ricardo: High School Students enrolled in any one semester, introductory or general, combined macro and micro economics course. Teams are encouraged to compete in the division that would challenge them the most. See official rules here.

STUDENT ACCESS CODES: 

After creating the teams you will be given unique access codes for each student. Distribute these access codes to your students when they are ready to take the Challenge.  Note:  These codes can only be used once. 

COMPLETING THE CHALLENGE (TESTING): 

When it is time for students to complete the challenge, they will select 'Student Access' and enter their access code that was assigned to them. They will then complete a short identification and challenge integrity confirmation before they begin the challenge. 

 

ACCESSING THE DATA: 

Once all of your student teams have completed the challenge, teachers can access their scoring and category data from their team administration page. Scoring data will show both the individual student score as well as the team score, while the category report will show student performance in each subject
