Economics Challenge!
What is the New Jersey Economics Challenge?
Each year, the New Jersey Council for Economic Education hosts an annual contest for high school students to test their economic knowledge with other students throughout the state. The New Jersey competition is fully online, free, and has divisions based on the amount of economic experience each student has.
The two divisions are:

Adam Smith: For returning competitors, AP, IB, or honors economics students (currently enrolled or previously taken).

David Ricardo: For first-time competitors who have never taken an economics course or are currently enrolled or previously taken a college prep (or standard) economics course. Students enrolled or currently taking an advanced level economics class must compete in Adam Smith.
How does the competition work?
Teams of 3-4 students will have 35 minutes to complete a 30-question online exam covering a broad variety of economic principles.
Students earn 10 points for every correct response and 0 points for each incorrect answer. Every question must be answered to move on, and students are not able to go back to previous questions.
The top team in each high school division (David Ricardo and Adam Smith) will represent New Jersey in the national competition.
The NJCEE Economics Challenge is intended for ALL students, both new and experienced. New teams are encouraged to experience the competition.
Steps to Register
- Teachers must first register to create their teacher profile. Returning teachers do not need to register again. Students cannot register themselves.
- Once a teacher has registered, they sign up their teams of 3-4 students. Teachers can register as many teams as they want.
- Students and teachers must overview ‘The Rules’ page for before the team begins testing.
