How it Works
Getting Started
- Click to learn about the NationalEconomicsChallenge of which the Missouri Economics Challenge is a part.
- Go to https://econchallenge.unl.edu/.
- Select Missouri.
- Register as a new teacher if you have never partcipated in the past or log in if you have participated in the past.
-
Determine which competition division your students will participate in:
- Adam Smith Division: for high-school students who completed or are enrolled in a two-semester or advanced economics course labeled as AP, IB, honors, or another designation. If a student previously participated in the David Ricardo Division, they must register for the Adam Smith Division in this year's competition.
- David Ricardo Division: for high-school students who completed or are enrolled in any one semester, general, or introductory economics course. No member of a David Ricardo team shall have taken more than one basic course in economics. Students may only compete in this division one year.
-
Middle School Division: for middle-school students who completed or are enrolled in an economics course or other economic education.
New Teachers:
- You will need to complete the Teacher Registration and be approved by your local administrator before you can begin creating teams. See this video to learn how to register. New Teacher Registration
Creating Teams:
- If you are ready to create your teams for this year's competition, you may do so by accessing your Team Administration page and selecting 'Create New Team'. See this video to learn how to create a team. Creating a Team
Student Access Codes:
- Once your teams have been created, each student will be assigned a unique access code that can only be used once - at the time of completing the challenge - and can only be used by that student. See this video for assistance in this area. Student Access Codes. Once your teams are created, you can download a list (Excel spreadsheet) of your teams and your students' access codes. Distribute these access codes to your students when they are ready to take the Challenge.
Completing the Challenge:
- Students must compete in teams of 3-4 students.
- The challenge is only available for students to complete during a given time period each year. This year's timeline is announced on the home page of this site.
- When it is time for students to complete the challenge, they will go to https://econchallenge.unl.edu/Missouri/Welcome. Then they will select "Student Access" and enter the unique access code that was assigned to them. They will then complete a short identification and challenge integrity confirmation before they begin the Challenge. For insight on student access and the layout of the Challenge, check out this short video.
- The Challenge consists of an online exam with 30 multiple-choice questions covering the following topics:
- Microeconomics
- Macroeconomics
- International economics
- Each student will be given 35 minutes to complete the online exam, and all team members must complete the exam within the same 3 hour window.
- The online exam cannot be paused and students cannot skip questions.
- Students must complete the online exam without any assistance or aids.
- Individual Exam Scoring:
- +10 points for each correct answer
- 0 points for each incorrect answer
- Team Scoring: the sum of the top three individual scores on each team make up the team score.
-
The State Champion team in each division in Missouri will be determined as the highest-scoring team in each division on the online exam. In case of a tie, the team completing the exam in the shortest time will be designated as the State Champion.
-
The State Champion team will be invited to participate in the NationalEconomicsChallenge Semi-Finals.
Accessing Student Data:
- Once all of your student teams have completed the challenge, teachers can access their scoring and category data from their team administration page. Scoring data will show both the individual student score as well as the team score, while the category report will show student performance in each subject. Accessing Student Data
