Important Dates

Teachers can register teams of 4 high school students in the David Ricardo or Adam Smith Division.

2024 Fall Challenge Dates- November 11th- December 4th

No team limits, so this makes a great class activity.  The top teams will advance to the spring State Championship.

2025 Spring Challenge Dates- March 3rd- March 21st 

No team limits, so this makes a great class activity.  The top teams will advance to the spring State Championship.

State Championship: April 9th @ Federal Reserve Bank Charlotte Branch

The top 8 teams from each division placing in the online rounds will be invited to participate in the State Championship. 

  • Phase I: Students complete a short, timed, written assessment individually. Individual scores will be combined to form an overall team score. 
  • Phase II: Each team will be given a detailed fictitious family scenario.  They will be given 48 hours to prepare a financial plan for the family.  They will then present their plan to our panel of expert judges.  Teams will be judged on content knowledge, teamwork, and presentation skills. 
  • Phase III: The written scores and case study scores will be combined to determine which two teams will move forward to the quiz bowl round in each division. The quiz bowl will determine the state champion who will then qualify to participate in the Semi-Finals.

Semi-Finals: April 21-April 24, 2025 Semi-Finals will consist of forty-five questions covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international and current events and will be held online. 

National Championship: May 29th- June 2nd, 2025  This round will consist of a Critical Thinking Round and Quiz Bowl for the top-scoring teams. It will take place in Atlanta, GA.

The top eight teams in each division from the National Semifinals will compete for the

The top eight scoring teams in the EconChallenge ONLINE (no more than two teams per school, per division, NCCEE reserves the right to make exceptions) will be invited to the North Carolina Live State Championships.
